The Model CDV-700 is a highly sensitive low-range survey meter that employs a side window GM detector. According to the Handbook for Radiological Monitors, it “can be used (1) in long term clean-up and decontamination operations, (2) for personnel monitoring, and (3) for indicating the degree of radioactive contamination on food and water”.
Designed to be used in conjunction with its high range variants (CDV-715/717)
*** This particular model is very clean and has been rebuilt and fitted with new and better components following FEMA guidelines.
The most common and prone to failure components have been replaced:
CR3 - High-voltage diode
C1, C4, C5 - Capacitors
V1 - High-voltage rectifier
Q1 & Q2 - Transistors
'CR4 and C6' to protect the transformer transistors. *** Example of Upgraded Circuit Board in Photos
This 700 is an example of former pieces of Civil Defense/PEMA (Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency/Exelon Nuclear) radiation detection equipment. They came from various fallout shelters, fire departments, and other emergency management sites around the Limerick and Three Mile Island nuclear power plants. They have been looked after, had their paint and calibration updated.
The Victoreen 6b always had the best reputation when compared to the other CDV-700 variants for its reliability and fast response. This particular model has had its high voltage components upgraded and replaced (capacitors, diode and most importantly the high voltage regulator tube). The rubber gasket for the meter face has also been replaced with a new one.
*Pictures are examples of multiple units, you may not receive the exact one pictured. Units are all extremely similar and in great condition.
*Red check source disc not included, used for demonstration purposes only.
*These are vintage machines with old electronics, without good connections between the batteries and circuit board they can be temperamental.
Civil Defense surplus will have marks, scratches or signs of rust.
